I am so glad you are here to join what I hope will become a thriving community of artists from all walks of life.
So, what's the show about?
Each artist has a story. Many of them have this creative spark within them. What they do with that spark is what I want to share with you.
How did they channel this creative energy? Was it just one type of art? Or many? Were friends and family encouraging? Did they pursue it as a career? Did they ever feel like giving up? How did they get past the doubt? The haters? The setbacks? What does art mean to them? What does art mean to the world?
Each episode, guests will answer these and other questions. Their stories will inspire you to find your own creative outlet(s), understand what it takes to become a working artist (or if you doing it for fun, how to just enjoy it) and support your artistic community.
And where do I fit into this world? I've been drawing and coloring as far back as I can remember. Mostly cartoon and comic book characters. Carried a sketch pad with me everywhere. Just came natural to me.
Recorded made up stories and even actual comic books on my tape recorder. Living in New York, I became a disc jockey at my high school radio station, WXBA. Took a BOCES TV/video summer class and enjoyed being in front of the camera more than behind it.
Still, stuck with Communication Arts in high school and college, but had to join the drama club. Did my first plays at NYIT. After graduating, pursued acting and landed some extra parts in movies. Did some local plays, training videos and a voice-over for a video game. Even directed a short film called The Intruder.
Upon moving to Florida, I recorded two audio books, joined a dinner theatre group, wrote a dinner show script and feature film screenplay.
And in 2018, I wrote and directed my short film, The Park which was featured in the Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival.
And here we are.
Artists fascinate me. Their creativity is limitless and I felt this desire to find out more about them. Why they do what they do. What it takes to turn it into a career. What advice would they give to aspiring artists.
All this and more will be covered in each episode. Hope you enjoy these shows. Share them with friends and family. And maybe you too have an artist inside itching to get out and you just need to hear how others have done it. Thanks for listening and remember:
No matter where you go, Let your creativity flow!
